FLICKER cover artist Steve Willis Exhibition - Springfield, Missouri

"My artwork addresses spiritual portals and sacred spaces based on personal experiences within Native American and non-Native Spiritual Ceremonies." - Steve Willis

The images attempt to capture the complexity of spiritual knowledge in a simple and direct manner.  The color, shapes, and symbols are significant and are used in the artwork to develop a visual vocabulary between people.  Although some Native people may use colors, shapes and symbols differently, for me the four colors: blue, red, black, and white represent the Four Directions and the corresponding Gateway Guardians (Angels).  Additionally, the close relationship of red and blue, and black and white is very important: blue represents divinity (listening), red represents prayer (talking), black represents emotion (heart), and white represents intellect (mind).  When the four directions converge there is a spiritual conversation between divinity and humanity.

(Obelisk Home is in Springfield, Missouri.  If you're in that neck of the woods, we strongly recommend that you check out this exhibition -- and tell Steve we said hello!)

SMB playing for "Bob Nite" in Panama City on Dec 12

Bob Nite
The Martin Theatre presents an exclusive evening of Bob
Dylan songs

On Saturday, Dec. 12, musical acts from the Florida Panhandle will
converge on the stage of Panama City's Martin Theatre to pay tribute
to history's most important songwriter.

It's all Dylan.  All night long.

The show, a roving creation of Tallahassee musician Grant Peeples, has
played to large and enthusiastically receptive crowds throughout
Florida.   This will be the first time the show has come to Panama City.
"I started Bob Nite in Tallahasssee as just something fun for us
musicians to do,"  said Peeples.  "Dylan has had such a major affect
on all of us, regardless of age or the genre of music we play.   I had
no idea the public would respond so positively."

Peeples describes those attending the the shows as being  "Eighteen to
80, in neckties and tie-dyes, with tattoos and botox, wearing
patchouli perfume, business suits, deck shoes, tennis shoes,
brogans and flipflops."

The line-up at the Martin will play songs strummed from the
wide variety of genres that Dylan has influenced over the last five
decades, including rock, folk, pop, country and Americana.

Peeples says he doesn't prescribe the set lists for the six acts that
will peform on Bob Nite.   "It's completely organic.   I don't care if
a song or two gets repeated.  You might hear a guitar-vocal of "Like A
Rolling Stone" in one set, and then hear the same song rocked out a
few sets later.  That's the beauty and magic of the Dylan ouvre."

Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the release of Bob
Dylan's first record.   He has written and recorded more than 600
songs.  Scores of musicians from Jimmi Hendrix to Nancy Sinantra have
recorded Dylan penned tunes.   Last year, Dylan played over 100 dates
in some fifteen different countries.

Doors open at  6:30
Show starts at 7:30
Performances by:   Grant Peeples, Kid Heart, Hannanel,  Lucy Mud, The
Sarah Mac Band, and Drew Tillman

 Reserve seating is $15
